Read the beginning of an African tale. Long ago, there lived a spider named Anansi. Anansi loved to eat, but he didn’t like to cook. One day Anansi smelled something cooking at Rabbit’s house.

“I see that you’re cooking greens in your pot,” Anansi said to Rabbit. Anansi loved greens.

“The greens are almost done,” said Rabbit. “Stay and eat them with me.”

But Anansi knew that if he waited, Rabbit would expect him to help with jobs around the house. So instead, Anansi offered to spin a web for Rabbit.
Jenny asks herself, “Why didn’t Anansi want to wait for the greens?” Choose the part of the text that answers her question.
