  A force field traps Kate and 1500 others in Philadelphia at first. The magnetic force field keeps the planes grounded in Philadelphia. A person or object that passes through the force field vanishes. Kate needed some fresh air to sleep. Mr. Jack tried to stop Kate from fleeing because it was too dangerous.

  Kate escaped the force field but was stopped by an echoing bark and Mr. Jack's dog wagging his tail on the other side of the force field. "What has she done?" she wondered. How could she help those trapped inside? Nobody would believe her because no one tried to leave, or if they did, they vanished. Now she must defend herself from the force field.

  Then Kate took the mirror from her pocket, wrote "use this to escape" on it, and grabbed a nearby stick to push it through to the dog so he could mimic Kate's actions. She gave the dog the mirror and waited, but nothing happened. So, she hid behind a tree, waiting to hear from Mr. Jack and his dog. Kate decides that being exposed outside the force field is too risky and sets out to find shelter and food.

  Kate finally leaves for food and shelter. Mr. Jack and his teammates received the mirror and the note from the old bulldog. "And just where do you think you're going?" said a deep voice. An echoing bark followed the voice. Kate turned around to see Mr. Jack and his bulldog, and her teammates were safe.
