For the final exercise of this unit, your task is to write your first fully formed speech on a subject that is important to you. If you like, you can use the material you have already researched when you learned to research in a previous unit. You can also choose a new subject if you like, but you must be prepared to research it thoroughly in order to build up a strong argument. Then, using the various techniques we have discussed here, your task is not just to argue your case logically but also to present it using the subtle emotional power that comes from literary techniques. In the next unit, we’ll learn all about how to actually deliver this speech. It can be as long as you like, but it should be at least 700 words.
