Hurricane Katrina began on August 23, 2005. It started over the southeastern Bahamas and was known as Tropical Depression Twelve. This depression later strengthened into a tropical storm. On the morning of August 24, the storm was named Katrina. Katrina moved into Florida. It became a Category 1 hurricane on the morning of August 25, two hours before it made landfall. The storm weakened when it landed on Hallandale Beach, but it's strength returned. It became a hurricane again while entering the Gulf of Mexico. Shortly after it crashed into the Southwestern U.
