He curtain rises on an empty stage. It is late afternoon November, 1945. The rooms are dusty, the curtains in rags. Chairs and tables are overturned. It is early morning, July 1942. The rooms are bare, as before, but they are now clean and orderly.

Read the two sets of stage directions in the passage. Then explain how you would set the stage to show that a time shift has occurred if you were the director.

Stage 1 :

Let the room be messy and dusty , let the curtains be hanged roughly and torned . Let the room look like a mess with very minimum dim lights and all over dust hanging down and above the furniture .

Stage 2 :

Now will change the room's look by cleaning all the dust ,removing the unnecessary things from the room . Hang  pretty curtains and tie them up with good belts . Clean all the chairs and tables and make them wear new chair and table covers .

Explanation:

 As a director it is important to show both the stages of the room .  As how it looks messy and how it turns out to be amazing . It is necessary to clean the messy room and keep all the lights on and create a good atmosphere in the surroundings by keeping some fresh flowers besides the window for a soothing atmosphere .
