When he was young, Howard Hughes seemed larger than life. He was once called "a second Lindbergh" because of all the records he broke as a pilot. He owned and ran dozens of businesses in every field, from building airplanes
to making medicine.
In his later years, Hughes became a recluse. Obsessed by worries about germs and illness, he turned into a lonely
hypochondriac. One doctor described Hughes in his final days as being like a neglected prisoner of war. In the end,
Hughes died of heart failure as he was being flown to a hospital.
