His bedroom is a disaster. Think: Don’t tell me that it’s messy. Describe the objects in the room, and how they are placed, and let the reader infer that it is a “disaster.” What does it smell like? Consider using a creative simile or metaphor.

A storm looks dark and dreary, you can hear the booming thunder and hear the pattering of the rain, it feels wet and cold, it smells nice and fresh.
