Can someone read this poem and answer two questions and i defined two things for you thanks. Passive racism-racial discrimination is disguised and shows up in subtle ways (covert racism) such as implicit biases, microaggressions, and racially coded language. Often, people who say and do these things are unaware of the racism that informs them.

Overt racism- racial slurs, violence, cross-burnings by the Ku Klux Klan, and practices of blatant racial segregation and discrimination.

* Authors like Rudyard Kipling have made a nation of 'passive racists', says John Barnes as he blames classic authors for bigotry

He said: ‘Over the last 200 years we have had negative images of black people ... in literature by Rudyard Kipling to Agatha Christie. Tarzan showed that.

“There are examples everywhere. Rudyard Kipling, one of our greatest heroes, wrote The White Man’s Burden, in which he wrote it was incumbent on the Americans to go and civilize the savages in the Philippines.”

Barnes moved to England aged 13 in the late 1970s when his father was Jamaica’s military attaché to London. He is among England’s most-capped black players, but at Liverpool FC he was regularly subjected to racist abuse from spectators and infamously had a banana hurled at him during a game.

Barnes has called for the National Curriculum to be revised so all children are taught that race is only a concept. He said: ‘If we get rid of passive racism then overcoming overt racism will take care of itself.’

1. What do YOU think about the above statement? You need to know the difference between passive and overt. First make a claim (change the question into your claim). Give evidence of passive racism . Reasoning is telling why you think the elimination of passive racism would get rid of overt racism.

2. Do you think this poem has meaning in today's times? How could its message be applied to our current culture and time period? Change this prompt into your claim. Give evidence of racism that happens right now. Reasoning, explain how your evidence proves your claim.
