analyzing the author's use of figurative language, use the following questions to guide your
understanding:
type of figurative language is it?
What does it mean?
What emotions or feelings does the example evoke?
• What does it tell you about how the author feels about the subject?
. Why did the writer use it?
. What is its effect on the overall message?

REMEMBER: an analysis does more than just tell your reader what the example is. It must explain how
that example proves the point you are trying to make!
