Participating Collaboratively
Objective
By completing this worksheet, you will be able to develop a collaborative participation plan to set ground rules
for decision making and develop a consensus building plan for your group work. This plan will help you and
your group members to contribute relevant information and successfully build on the ideas of others.
Set ground rules for decision making. Ground rules are agreements about how to behave and interact during group work. Agree in advance how decisions will be made. How will ideas be presented? How will members express their decisions?
Develop a consensus building plan.
A consensus is when each member agrees. A consensus doesn’t mean that everyone agrees it is the
best decision, but everyone agrees to accept the decision and move forward. How will your group
work to come to a consensus?
Contribute relevant information.
It is important that each member adds to the conversation and their information that is
appropriate and on topic. How will your group ensure that each member contributes? How will
your group ensure that the conversation is on topic?
Build on the ideas of others.
Listening and responding in a way that adds to the ideas of other members is an important part of
group work. How will your group ensure that each member is heard? How will your group add to
