In academic writing, a paragraph is a set of related sentences about one idea called the topic. A paragraph usually consists of 4-8 sentences about a single topic. The paragraph usually begins with a general sentence that introduces the topic. This sentences is called the topic sentence and it tells the reader what the paragraph will be about. The topic sentence is followed by 3-7 sentences that are more specific and use detail to support the topic sentence. Explain, describe or illustrate the idea in the topic sentence. These are some ways to support topic sentences: by giving examples, stories and incidents, physical description, personal experience, opinion or facts. Remember that opinions have to be supported by evidence (from scholars) ,in which you acknowledge the source. It is possible to use any or all of these ways to support the topic within ONE paragraph. The supporting sentences are the main ideas because they control the information that is given in the paragraph. However, supporting sentences should follow logically and be connected by using appropriate signpost words/phrase. The sentence that ends the paragraph is called the concluding sentence. This sentence does one of two things: 1) summarises the main points in the paragraph to end the idea ; 2) serves as a linking sentence or alerts the reader to the idea(s) in the following paragraph. A well-organised paragraph has a clear topic sentence and supporting sentences directly related to the topic sentence, will already have some coherence. In other words, it will"stick together" and have a sense of logic that makes it easy to read and understand. CREATE A SUMMARY BY ADHERING TO THE FOLLOWING INSTRUCTIONS: Step1 : Provide a suitable heading for your summary. Step2: Briefly summarize the article 70-80 words by listing six main points. Step3: Please write in a point form

Read sentence 13 from the draft. some plants retain a great deal of their foliage through much of the spring and summer, but the leaves do not retain their green color for long. which detail would be best to add after sentence 13 to develop the topic? a. since the green color of the leaves that are bright and abundant during the warmer months will disappear by the time it is fall, it is important that the leaves are trimmed and kept freshly cut so that they will last for as long as possible. b. while the temperature outside may dictate when the fall colors of leaves appear, it is only one of many environmental factors that play a part in the changing of colors from green leaves to fall-colored leaves during the cooler months. c. if people want to enjoy the green color of leaves longer, trees should be planted where the environment is warmer and the days longer because chlorophyll in the leaves can only be manufactured and replaced with sunlight and warmth. d. the green chlorophyll normally masks the fall-colored pigments during the warmer months, but as sunlight becomes less abundant and trees become frozen, the fall colors of leaves become more visible as chlorophyll disappears.
