Harry Potter, the boy with the lightning-bolt shaped scar on his forhead, lives with his aunt, from his mothers side, his uncle and his cousin after he was put on their doorstep after his parents had died when he was a baby. On Harry's 11th birthday, he receives a letter, but is unable to read it because his uncle takes it from him. The house is soon filled with letters and the Dursley's (his "family") are forced to leave and go to a lighthouse. Hagrid (the half giant half man) soon comes, and tells Harry that he is a wizard, hence the famous line "Your a wizard Harry." Harry goes on to learn that his parents were killed by an evil wizard, and that he is the only person to ever survive the killing curse.

Before Harry goes to Hogwarts, school of witchcraft and wizardry, he sees Hagrid take something from this vault. Later, he and his new best friends Ron and Hermione, go on an adventure to get the sorcerers stone, in fear that the villain of the story Voldemort, also known as He-Who-Shall-Not-Be-Named, will get to it first. They find out that the stone could make Voldemort immortal, something that no one wants.

The trio goes on and completes obstacles to get to the stone, but in the end it is Harry who has to go on alone. When harry gets to the room where the stone is, he sees Professor Quirrell, the schools defense against the dark arts teacher. When the professor unwraps his head scarf, it is revealed that Voldemort is on the back of his head. Harry goes on and defeats the professor/Voldemort.
