Bergson family, Swedish immigrants living in the farm
country of Nebraska near the turn of the twentieth century
Alexandra Bergson, the main character inherits her father's
farmland, and while other families are giving up life on the
prairie, she tries to make the farm a business vonture and
home. This excerpt from Chapter V of Part I: The Wild Land"
begins with Alexandra and her brother, Emil, riding home
after looking at farmland for sale.
