Read the following Informational Text and answer the question that follows. “Romeo and Juliet is one of, if not the most famous tragedy that Shakespeare has ever written. This is a shame, because it is also the worst tragedy that Shakespeare has ever written. The format of a proper tragedy is that the fall of the tragic hero is caused by himself due to a fatal flaw. This does not happen in Romeo and Juliet. The star crossed lovers are in love and due to the actions of their parents, Friar Lawrence, The Nurse, Tybalt and others they are driven into a horrible situation. It is these outside forces and not their own flaws that cause their downfall, which does not make a proper tragedy.” What would be a proper counterargument to the central point of this essay? A. Romeo and Juliet should not be famous because it is an awful play. B. Romeo and Juliet does follow proper tragedy format, because it is the lovers’ fatal flaw that causes the other characters to force them into a horrible situation. C. Romeo and Juliet should be Shakespeare’s most famous tragedy, because it is far superior to his other works. D. The characters in Romeo and Juliet do not realize they are putting the lovers into a horrible situation.
