A Miller, His Son, and Their
Donkey-An Update
adapted from a fable by Aesop
Times were tough for the miller and his son. Being a miller
was a dying occupation. Now, fancy machines quickly ground
grain into flour without any need of the miller's skill and
experience. He was out of work and almost out of money.
"Hey, Dad, how 'bout we head to the flea market and sell this
old donkey?" the miller's son asked. I'm not sure if you've
heard, but these days they have these things called trucks
that can carry our stuff."
The miller smiled at the teenager. The boy was a bit of a wise
guy, but he was right. It was time to part with their donkey.
The miller's son wants to ride the
donkey all the way into town.
The miller needs a job and
worries about people's opinion of
him.
