1) Elisa and the traveling repairman's interaction with one another helped develop the story's theme "take risks". While conversing with the repairman, she mentions " 'You
sleep right in the wagon? ... It must be very nice. I wish women could do such things.”
Elisa was referring to how amazing the man's way of living was. She too wished she
could venture out and live a bit more on the riskier side. When the repairman tried to tell
her that his life was no way of living for a woman, it offended Elisa. She believed that if
she was allowed she would thrive in a risky life like that.
