Jamal wanted a video game system more than anything in the world. His friends were obsessed with the latest game, A-Maze-lng, that let
players build huge, elaborate virtual mousetraps. He begged his
parents to get him the system, but they refused. They said it would
only enable him to lie around not using his brain instead of learning
something. Jamal was annoyed about the game for several weeks.
One day, his parents arrived home from work to discover that their
living room had been taken over by an elaborate contraption. "Watch
this," Jamal said. He threw a basketball into a bucket, which slid down
the coffee table, knocked over a stick, and sent a disc from his golf
game skidding across the floor. Several steps later, the family laundry
basket crashed down onto a teddy bear, trapping it underneath.
