4 key characters In Macbeth and what each of these characters taught you as you read the novel.

Duncan: Trust no one. As a king or an individual in an envied position, one should always be cautious of enemies and friends both. Sometimes, people are not as they seem and appear friendly or trustworthy only in a superficial way.

Lady Macbeth: One cannot commit a crime and expect no retribution. Even if all appears well initially, the past does not remain undisturbed always. People who commit ill-deeds will have to pay one way or another, even if their crime is not discovered immediately. They must pay with the price of their soul and/or the price of their life.

Macbeth: To be weak is a grave fault and a sin. Being influenceable and morally vulnerable can lead to terrible decisions. A person is responsible for their own choices. Thus, one who is tempted to commit a misdeed and to betray another because of this temptation is at fault for any ensuing disaster.

Malcolm: Though not always, sometimes justice does prevail in the face of some more formidable force. Time can allow for strength, maturity and growth. A person who stands for justice, order, and goodness can ultimately prove more powerful than one who stands for greed and guilt. Finally... revenge is sweet.
