Faculty, staff, and administrators works together to plan the event months ahead of time. The event is aimed
at providing students the opportunity to read books and meets the men and women who wrote them, as well
as to introduce students to diverse people and cultures. The first step in preparing for the Reading Festival is
to select the author. A list of authors are created and a vote are taken. Next, the author is contacted and
his/her books are purchased. The event includes a day of reading booths that is carefully planned. Each
booth features activities that helps students learn more about the themes from the writing. Students visits
these booths during class time the week before the author comes. A passport activity allow students to walk
around the CLC reading small posters, and then students answers questions on a handout from their
instructor. Finally, the author visits and he/she give a presentation in the community room. Light snacks are
served and the author sign autographs for students who own copies of their book(s). It is a wonderful event
