McArthur's Universal Corrective Map of the World was developed in 1979 and placed Antarctica at the top of a world map.
Stuart McArthur had a simple question: Why do we always put north at the top of the map? In reality, the globe has no
top or bottom because it is floating in space. There is no reason that Australia couldn't have been drawn at the top and
North America at the bottom.
Assumptions are things we believe are true or right without any real proof. Assumptions prevent us from seeing new
things and keep us trapped in 2D thinking.
Based on the text, what assumption were mapmakers using to design maps before Stuart McArthur created his map?
The South Pole is denser than the North Pole.
O North must always be at the top of the map.
The world map looks best with the North Pole on top.
O More people like the North Pole than the South Pole.
