Helping Hand Lily had forgotten all about her English project until the weekend before it was due. She knew she'd be working on it all weekend if she wanted a
good grade. Lily decided to call Kim, her best friend, to cancel their plans go to the movies. She knew Klm would be upset because she was
looking forward to watching the movie and spending time together.
Lily and Kim had been in school together since first grade. A year ago, Lily's parents had put her in a private school. Because they were at
different schools, Kim and Lily didn't get to meet every day anymore.
When Lily called her to cancel their plans, Kim came up with a perfect solution. She offered to come over and help to complete the project faster
so they wouldn't have to miss the movie.
Lily's class was doing a presentation on poets and writers. Lily had chosen her favorite poet. As soon as Kim arrived, they divided everything that
needed to be done. They had to download Information from the Internet, print pictures, and prepare charts about the poet's life and works. Lily
got the information she needed from the Internet. Kim, who was amazing at art, got the charts ready.
The two of them worked through the afternoon, stopping only when Lily's mom brought them milk and cookies.
"There, all done" sald Lily a few hours later, putting down her paint brush. Kim hugged her best friend.
"Thanks for all your help, Kim," Lily said, smiling,
"I actually had fun," Kim responded. "As long as we get to spend time together, it doesn't matter what we're doing."
