"The Colomber" tells the story of a man who is afraid of a colomber, a small shark. He believes that because he saw the colomber when he was a child, the colomber will now try to kill him. In order to escape the animal, he moves inland. Later in his life , he becomes a talented sailor. Eventually, when the man is old, he decides to face the colomber. When he does, he realizes the colomber never intended to kill him. Instead, he wanted to give him a pearl that gives good luck to whoever possesses it.
