 – Characterization of Narrator: This involves directly or indirectly explaining the narrator's character traits by describing them with adjectives or how they deal with situations. 

 – Development of Plot: This involves furthering the main idea or central storyline of the story you're reading/writing. 

 – Illustration of Setting: This involves using sensory details to describe the environment that your character is in or that your story is somehow related to. 

 – Advancement of Theme: I wouldn't say this is really an element of fiction per se; the only thing I could imagine would be defined as "advancing the theme" is describing what actions/events took place to teach the character and/or reader about the central lesson of the story. 

Immediately, I don't think that option 4 would apply to your given passage, since it's something that applies to an overall story, and this is only a selection. Plus, I don't see any lesson that could be learned from this passage alone without some background details at the very least. The other three are present in your passage, and I encourage you to read over your passage a few times and determine which you think is the most present. For me, personally, I think that your answer is the first one, since the passage mostly contains the narrator's descriptions of how they were reacting to their surroundings.
