your poem should:

● develop your theme (your overall idea) about what you value

● be written in lines and stanzas (groups of lines)

o stanzas must be clearly separated with spaces between

o do not number or “bullet” your stanzas

● have a logical flow

o the reader should be able to follow along easily

● use descriptive language

o your words create the mental picture for the reader – be creative!

● use repetition (repeat words and phrases for effect)
