What was a major effect of the 1857 dred scott v. standford decision?

The decision and overall racism that tied into this decision pushed the North to its boiling point. Basically it meant that if a slave goes into a free country, they are still considered as slaves. That is because slaves are not people, they are property. This is arguably one of the most racist things said in American History.
