Emancipation Proclamation was a presidential executive command issued by President Abraham Lincoln on 1st January 1863 that changed the legal status of about 5 million salved Americans in the confederate states. It abolished slavery and set them free. It ensured that as soon as the salves flee from their masters they became independent. The proclamation was applied to the entire former Confederacy and in the remaining states through, 13th Amendment act authorized in December 1865.
