the curtain closed, and my eyes shot sideways to my friends in the cast. their eyes sparkled, and we winked and nudged each other. we breathed deep and held it as the curtain opened for our final bow. despite the hot stage lights in my face, i could see my parents at the edge of the crowd, beaming. i felt my smile grow wider as we raised our hands and bowed to the thundering applause. my mind screamed, “yes! ” as the curtain closed again, and we all rushed together in a frantic embrace.
