Can someone me turn these sentences into present participles?

1. the man was freezing outside in the cold.

2. the smoking beaver is sitting on the porch.

3. josh is kneeling at the altar while praying.

4. tim is riding in the back of the truck.

5. my dad is talking with my teacher at the parent-teacher conference.

here is what my teacher said i did wrong: all of your sentences above are verb phrases. you were asked to use them as participles, which means as adjectives, not part of the verb phrase. we know that it’s part of the verb phrase when it’s used as the present progressive after “be”. when asked to use them as participles or participial phrases in the future avoid using any form of the verb “be” followed by the present participle because more than likely it will be a verb phrase. examples of present participles: the woman cleaning the kitchen doesn’t look very happy (notice how it’s acting as an adjective for “woman”). running very quickly from my house, i arrived to work just in time (the participial phrase is also acting like an adjective to describe “i”).
