The stranger part 2 questions
chapter 1
2. Is there anything admirable about Meursault for being totally honest? What is Camus trying to point out by making him so blunt and almost fearless?
3. Why would the lawyer be taken aback when Meursault says, "all normal people have wished their loved ones dead at some point or other"? Why does the lawyer tell him not to say that during the trial?
4. The magistrate gets mad that Meursault fired 5 shots instead of just 1. Would it have helped his case if he had only shot one time? Is the pause the problem? Why or why not?
5. The magistrate is getting frustrated that Meursault is not religious. Meursault decides that he will do with the magistrate what he always does when he doesn't want to talk to people anymore. What is that? When else has this been a point that is made in the novel? What does that show?
6. At the end of ch. 1 the judge leads him to the door and slaps him on the shoulder and says, "That's all for today, Monsieur Antichrist." What does that mean? Why / how is that relevant to Meursault?
