Built between 1826 and 1834, Fort Macon is on the coast of North Carolina in the United States. It was constructed to protect the U. S. coast from foreign invaders. Its installation was spurred by
British invasions in the War of 1812. The only time it was attacked was during the American Civil
War, when it was captured. Later it became a state park.
