popularity of the breed soared after the publication of two books. First Albert
Payton Terhune penned his heroic Lad: A Dog in 1919. Then in 1938 Eric

collie's perilous trek through all of Scotland to return to her beloved Joe. This
account forever sealed the breed's status as a faithful companion for all. Other
breeds of dogs have been the subjects of books, movies, and television, but
