Psychology is in essence the science that dedicates itself to the study of the mind and human behavior and all the processes that are a part of thi study.

The interest for why humans think the way they do, why they behave in the way that they do, how our minds interact with our environments, comprehend the world around us, and produce the necessary responses towards it for adaptation, change, and survival, has been present in humanity almost from the beginning, when philosophers themselves pondered on these topics.

However, historically speaking, psychology, as a science per se, exclusively dedicated to the scientific study of the human mind and human behavior, started developing from the Enlighment period, especially in Europe, and while to some experts psychology was at first a science that was tied to other fields of study, such as anthropology, this changed when in 1732, Christian Wolff established that psychology was an independent field of scientific study.

Experimental psychology then initiated really in the 1800´s, particularly with the theories and establishment of laboratories for research by Wilhelm Wundt. From then on, theories, principles, and research began to emerge from this social science as an independent field of study, and it has always dedicated itself to the study of how the human mind works, and how human behavior arises, forms, what influences it, how it can be influenced and affected, among other things.
