Simon observes the wind, rocks, and sky. He moves out into the open and feels the
wind. The forest is noisy and windy, but Simon pushes on even though he has some
injuries. He sees something unusual and goes in that direction. When he is close
enough, he sees exactly what it is.
Simon is weakened and hurt but still able to to keep moving. He goes toward he hump
that he sees near the parachute. When he realizes it is a rotting body that already
smells badly, he becomes sick but still unties the line from the body. He then notices
the boys back at camp and decides he must return and share this information.
Simon is hurt, but his pain makes him feel stronger. Deep in his heart, he feels the
comfort that comes from the flies. He sees the parachute and moves toward it
because it is blue. He thinks about getting help for the dead guy, so that's why he goes
back to camp.
Clearly Simon is the toughest boy on thee island. None of them could look at a dead
body all alone and still be able to remain calm. The only reason he gets ick is because
his stomach was already upset. Maybe when he tells the other boys about this, he will
finally get the respect that he deserves.

Read the passage from sugar changed the world. for an african, whether you were sent to the caribbean or south america, you were now part of the sugar machine. and it did not much matter where your ship landed. you could be working the fertile fields of brazil or the hills of jamaica; the brutal cycle of making sugar was much the same. how does the use of the word machine support the authors' claim in this passage? its negative connotation indicates that enslaved people had to work like robots instead of human beings. its negative denotation indicates that some people preferred handmade sugar over factory-produced sugar. its positive connotation indicates that plantations ran efficiently and produced huge amounts of sugar. its positive denotation indicates that it was easier for enslaved people to make sugar with machines.
