âReading for pleasure is a waste of time. People who spend hour upon hour reading donât get to live in the real world. They donât really learn anything that is useful about how to deal with everyday people and problems. Plus, teachers always make us read things that are boring.
Parents always talk about how if schools has uniforms, everything would be so much easier. You wouldnât get caught up on looks and would learn the skills you need. I disagree with this. I think that school uniforms would put a restriction on our creativity. We dress the way we do for a certain reason. Clothes give us expression and the ability to use color and patterns. The first impression we get of people is usually clothes, facial expression and language. If we all wear the same thing we donât get to really see what people are like on the side. Usually girly girls wear pink and frilly things. Skaters wear baggy pants and Goths usually wear black. Clothes donât distract us from learning the studies we need to, it simply lets us inspire our imaginations and lights up our words.â (Anonymous writer on TeenInk. com)

Read this excerpt from through the looking-glass by lewis carroll. "you might make a joke on that,â said the little voice close to her ear: "something about âyou would if you could,â you know.â "don't tease so,â said alice, looking about in vain to see where the voice came from; "if you're so anxious to have a joke made, why don't you make one yourself? â the little voice sighed deeply: it was very unhappy, evidently, and alice would have said something pitying to comfort it, "if it would only sigh like other people! â she thought. but this was such a wonderfully small sigh, that she wouldn't have heard it at all, if it hadn't come quite close to her ear. the consequence of this was that it tickled her ear very much, and quite took off her thoughts from the unhappiness of the poor little creature. what question should a reader ask to clarify what is happening in the story? who or what is the voice speaking to alice? when will alice attempt to share a joke? what secret will alice share with the new character? why do whispers tickle the listener?
