Journal Topic

Genesis 1-3 is one of the most recognizable stories – at least in the Western tradition. Many of us could probably write something on it from what we know (or think we know) about its meaning. This is the challenge for this journal. Without relying on any previous knowledge and without using any traditional definitions (about sin, the fall, the serpent, temptation, etc.) read the story and provide an interpretation that is not based on morality, i. e. disobedience. Here’s one suggestion. Instead of thinking about the events described in the garden of Eden as ethical, why not think about the nature of beauty and creation, that is, an aesthetic appreciation.
