SOLVING THE OCEAN'S PLASTIC PROBLEM
We use an incredible quantity of single-use plastic items. Many countries have now
imposed a ban on disposable plastics. Everyone must scale up this effort so that global
plastic consumption is reduced. You can do your part by refusing to use these products.
The average per capita plastic consumption has increased from 2kg in 1974 to 43kg today.
Alteratives to non-degradable plastics must be developed. Industries must be targeted to
take responsibility in this regard. Most of the plastics used today are produced from oil.
Governments need to implement a tax on plastics that cause pollution. The tax must be
such that recycled plastic becomes cheaper to use than newly manufactured plastics.
