They were called the Vaisya, and they were from Brahma’s thighs. The lowest caste level, the Shudra, came from Brahma’s feet and included tenant farmers and servants. Another group of people, the untouchables, existed outside of the caste system because they were considered to be unclean. They performed tasks such as cleaning after funerals.
