No question, now, what had happened to the faces of the pigs. The creatures outside looked from pig to man, and from man to pig, and from pig to man again; but already it was impossible to say which was which.

However, through the course of the novel, there is a significant shift. Describe, in detail, this shift and its irony. How does the excerpt represent that shift?   The theme that is revealed in this excerpt is: Naïve citizens allow corrupt governments. In this passage of the novel, it is demonstrated that the naivety of the working-class animals is one of the main reasons for their oppression. The tyranny of the pigs kept the other animals ignorant enough to let them possibly understand that they have been deceived by the false ideals of the rebellion. In the end, the gullibility of the animals becomes the best weapon of Napoleon to reaffirm his dictatorship, in which the pigs can have a comfortable life at the expensive of the other animals...
