What happens afterward? Shakespeare based his story on The Tragicall Historye of Romeos and Juliet, a poem by Arthur Brooke. At the end of his poem, Brooke tells what happens to several characters after the loversâ deaths. For example, the Apothecary (the pharmacist) is hanged for selling poison. Write your own description of the fate of the characters who remain alive, especially the Nurse, Lord Capulet, Lord Montague, and the Friar.
