Orville and Wilbur Wright were brothers and inventors. The brothers, always intrigued by flight started testing gliders
in 1900 and moved up to powered flights by 1903. The
following excerpt is a firsthand account by the Wrights of
the first-ever flight that humans controlled on takeoff in
the air, and on landing. The brothers designed and built the
plane used for the 1903 flights in Kitty Hawk, North Carolina.
