What major world events were going on when you were alive? How did these events affect you?

This is very emotional to me. I wasn't even in existence at the time but my mother was in an event 9/11. My mother was in the building that was hit by jets. My mom was very lucky to leave the building just in time before the building collapsed. R.I.P. to all the people that died in this fatal event.
