Have you ever made the not-so-great decision to get revenge on someone? In the book Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry, by Mildred D. Taylor, Cassie Logan chose to get revenge on Lillian Jean Simms. Cassie chose to do this because one day Cassie bumped into Lillian Jean and she made her apologize. After she did, Lillian Jean tried to shove her off the sidewalk. Since Lillian Jean couldnā€™t push Cassie off, her father came and pushed Cassie and forced her to apologize again. In my opinion, it was not the greatest idea to get revenge on Lillian Jean.

The first reason that it was a bad idea to get revenge is that Cassie could be putting her whole family in danger. Charlie Simms (Lillian Jeanā€™s father) would be very angry at the Logans if he discovered his daughter got beat up by Cassie. He definitely would go after them like a hunter chasing prey. Cassieā€™s father also knows this. In chapter 8 he says, ā€œThis here's an important decision, Cassie, very important - I want you to understand that - but I think you can handle it. Now, you listen to me, and you listen good. This thing. if you make the wrong decision and Charlie Simms gets involved, then I get involved and there'll be trouble.ā€ This reveals that Cassieā€™s father knows that if done wrong, Cassieā€™s revenge could have severe consequences. Also, Big Ma and Cassieā€™s mother realized that something bad could happen from when Cassieā€™s Uncle Hammer tried to go after Charlie Simms. In chapter 6 it states, ā€œHammer, Cassie's all right,' she cried. ā€˜Donā€™t go making unnecessary trouble !ā€ Cassieā€™s mother says ā€œunnecessary troubleā€ because she doesn't want anything to happen to Uncle Hammer.

The other reason why it was a poor decision to get revenge is that Lillian Jean could try to get back at Cassie. Lillian Jean might try to fight Cassie again. She was boiling with anger because of Cassie which made her want to hurt her as much as possible while they fought. In chapter 8 it states, ā€œshe fought as best she couldā€. This shows that she wanted to hurt Cassie and could possibly want to try again. She also called Cassie names. Also in chapter 8, the text states, ā€œshe, expending her energy in angry, nasty Name-callingā€ This shows how rude Lillian Jean was to Cassie and probably will be rude to her again if she tries to get back at her.

In conclusion, It was a very terrible idea for Cassie to get revenge on Lillian Jean in the book Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry, by Mildred D. Taylor. If I was Cassie, I would just leave it be, even if I was a volcano about to erupt. This would probably be the best way to steer clear of trouble. If youā€™ve been pondering about getting revenge on someone, donā€™t do it! It most likely will not end well.
