This relates to the book, The Anthem by Ayn Rand. In this book, humans are going through another Dark Age of technological suppression and the powers that be have made it such that humans no longer have any individuality and they only refer to themselves in plural or collective terms.

Their jobs are assigned for them by the Council of Vocations and that of the Teacher who are meant to be just and were assigned by The Councils which carried the voice of justice.
