II. Quick-Writ Try out a transition. Instructions: Pretend a classmate is writing about his first time feeling responsible
for something (a goldfish). Your classmate has these two paragraphs started, but he
needs help building a transition between the two paragraphs. Read the two
paragraphs below, then try using one of our transitional methods to create a link
between his paragraphs.
Step 1: Read your (fake) classmate's paragraphs:
Paragraph 1: My first pet was named Mr. Flufferkins, and he was my best friend.
That's pretty amazing since he was a fish whose only communication was
making bubbles asking for food. He taught me how to be responsible and how
to take care of something that never moved more than a foot. My mom seemed
to think I wouldn't be able to do it telling me I would kill it in under a week."
But, I ignored her negativity! With some of my saved lunch money (I went
hungry a few days) and a sense of excitement, I embarked upon my first journey
into responsibility. I knew I had to prove myself and what it meant to be a pet
owner and possibly the greatest fish owner that ever existed!
(TRANSITION NEEDED AT THE END OF THE PREVIOUS PARAGRAPH OR AT THE
BEGINNING OF THE NEXT PARAGRAPH)
