so, we need to look at a character and start to figure out what makes them... well, them. individual, complete the following steps:
1. Atticus Finch from To Kill a Mockingbird.
2. As a father, Atticus is fairly generic: he is stern yet supportive to his family.
3. As a white male in the 1930s South, Atticus was different from his peers in several ways:
a. He recognized the racism of his time and actively argued against it;
b. He knew the risks that this presented to his family, yet his integrity required he do
so anyway;
c. His wit and oratory are superlative... his words were genuinely enjoyable to read.
4. I root for Atticus.
5. I’m drawn to characters that do the hard thing when they know it’s right. Throughout the
novel, Atticus proves that he sees the world as it is, and while the easy thing would be to go along with the status quo, he instead uses the tools he has at his disposal to make the world just a little bit better of a place. The fact that he does this despite being at great personal risk makes this all the more remarkable.
