I’m excited to be your middle schooler’s English Language Arts teacher and look forward to a great year working together to ensure your child’s success.
Originally from Upper Michigan, I traveled a winding path to becoming a teacher. I’ve been a missile mechanic in the U. S. Air Force, a waitress, a volunteer coordinator, and at-home mom. I graduated from the University of Wyoming with a degree in Secondary English Education, including a middle school endorsement. For 10+ years I taught 7-12th grade English near Green Bay, Wisconsin, and most recently I’ve taught 7th and 8th grade ELA at AMS. I have two children: a daughter Quinn, 25, and a son Joseph, 20.
I choose to teach because I believe each child can achieve strong reading and writing skills which will positively impact his or her future. Although my expectations are high, I know together we can grow these vital skills in your child.
One of my greatest beliefs is in the power of reading ~ reading anything! Because research shows good readers become good writers, I’ll ask your middle schooler to constantly have a book in hand and read as many books for pleasure as possible over the course of the year. We have an amazing classroom library with various genres of books; however, if students find something they would like to read and I don’t have it, I will find it!
look at the meme below it's very funny

Read the following excerpt from life on the mississippi by mark twain. no girl could withstand his charms. he "cut out" every boy in the village. when his boat blew up at last, it diffused a tranquil contentment among us such as we had not known for months. but when he came home the next week, alive, renowned, and appeared in church all battered up and bandaged, a shining hero, stared at and wondered over by everybody, it seemed to us that the partiality of providence for an undeserving reptile had reached a point where it was open to criticism. how does twain's use of understatement serve his purpose? be sure to use specific details from the text to support your answer.
