The man rose from his stool at a workbench strewn with violin pieces and woodworking tools. Beneath his apron, he wore a starched white shirt and a necktie.
"I called yesterday about having my violin appraised." He said nothing. "I have it here," I said, offering it like a gift to royalty.
His eyes passed over my violin, met mine, and then went back to the violin.
"So you want me to tell you what the violin is worth?" he said not looking up. I nodded, thinking that we had established that yesterday. My
eyes scanned the walls where hung probably fifty violins in a variety of sizes. I noted the glass case with the locks. Those had to be the quality
instruments. "Tell me what you know of this violin."
I told him that it had been my grandfather's, that he had brought it to this country from Italy, that he had supported his family playing for
country dances in Vermont.
The man set the violin down on a towel, breathed deeply. "So is this country dance fiddle for sale?"
Which is the best analysis of the craftsman?
1. His professional attitude identifies him as the protagonist.
2. His curiosity over the violin identifies him as the protagonist.
3. His disregard for the violin identifies him as the antagonist.
04. His inappropriate dress identifies him as the antagonist.
