A. Story Details “Rogue Wave”

Read the excerpt from the text. Then answer the following questions.

As he was about to complete a northeast tack, Sully’s attention was drawn to a squadron of seagulls diving on small fish about a hundred yards off the port bow, and he did not see the giant wave that had crept up silently behind the Sea Dog. But a split second before it lifted the boat like a carpenter’s chip, he sensed something behind him and glanced backward, toward the towering wall of shining water.

It was already too late to shout a warning to Scoot so she could escape from the cabin; too late to do anything except hang on to the wheel with both hands; too late even to pray. He did manage a yell as the Sea Dog became vertical. She rose up the surface of the wall stern first and then pitch-poled violently, end over end, the bow submerging and the boat going upside down, taking Sully and Scoot with it, the forty-foot masts, sails intact, now pointing toward the bottom.

36. The primary conflict or problem the characters need to solve is

A. steering away from the rogue wave.

B. returning the boat to an upright position.

C. paying back their friend for ruining his boat.

D. getting Scoot out from inside the capsized boat.

Read the excerpt from act i of the importance of being earnest. lady bracknell. well, i must say, algernon, that i think it is high time that mr. bunbury made up his mind whether he was going to live or to die. this shilly-shallying with the question is absurd. . i should be much obliged if you would ask mr. bunbury, from me, to be kind enough not to have a relapse on saturday, for i rely on you to arrange my music for me. it is my last reception, and one wants something that will encourage conversation, particularly at the end of the season when every one has practically said whatever they had to say, which, in most cases, was probably not much. what aspect of lady bracknell’s behavior does wilde use to poke fun at the importance placed on frivolous events in formal society? her concern with a party instead of mr. bunbury’s health her interest in playing classical music at her reception her jealousy over algernon’s friendship with the sickly mr. bunbury her concern about the health of algernon’s friend
