Review the section of the epic entitled: Battle with Grendel. Your task is to rewrite this section from any character’s point of view. Some character’s might include: Beowulf, Grendel, Hrothgar, one of Beowulf’s men, one of Hrothgar’s men, or Grendel’s Mother.
You should make your readers feel empathy towards your character. For example, if you are writing it from Grendel’s point of view, the readers should end up feeling that Beowulf is the villain. Likewise, you should explore your character’s motives and create reasons for why they are really not the guilty parties or evildoers.
You must use real situations from the actual text of Beowulf, although they may be exaggerated or slightly distorted to fit the perspective of your character. Your story must be written in the first person perspective.
Be sure to use good writing-- alliteration, similes, metaphors, sensory and descriptive language will help!
You can write this as a poem or in prose (paragraph) form. At the top of the page write your character’s name.
Length: at least 400 words-- but you will probably write more!
Do not copy and paste from the internet. That’s not cool. Use your brain and imagination.
