Some foods, like potato chips and pretzels, are obviously salty. But many packaged foods may also contain hidden salt. Food companies often add sodium to help improve taste. Things such as canned tuna, hot dogs, cheese, and even some breads and pasta have a considerable amount of salt in them. In fact, most of the salt we eat does not come from a salt shaker; it comes from our food. Too much salt, like too much of anything, can result in substantial health risks. To improve Americans' health, the U. S. government wants its citizens to reduce the amount of salt they eat by more than half. Consumers may be of the sodium.
